Summer food

The past two days it has been incredibly hot outside – all-the-time-sweaty-can’t-move-or-think-or-eat-kind of hot. Since at some point you have to eat, last night we came up with this fabulous meal: Hawaiian Watermelon Salad. Not only does it sound very summery, but it also is the perfect dinner for days like this: easy and quick to prepare, cool, and different (in a delicious way).

Until about four weeks ago I had never even thought about the possibility of making salad out of watermelon (that is, other than fruit salad), but then I read on Jordan’s blog about her Melon salad and only about four days later a co-worker told me about it. I asked her for the recipe, which contained tons of arugula (not  my favorite) – so I created my own version, which is basically a mixture of both recipes. You need:

1/2 water melon (cut in 1/2″ cubes, seeds removed)

150g crumbled feta

3 Tbsp. walnuts

3 Tbsp. chopped, black olives

1 hand full of coarsely chopped basil

2 medium tomatoes (sliced)

2 Tbsp. honey

2 Tbsp. olive oil

Mix everything together and season with salt and pepper as required (I never do). Serves 2 as a main dish.

Perfect Sunday

Today was a perfect Sunday – and the biggest bumble bee I’ve ever seen visited me on our balcony half way through my book. Well, she might just have visited the flowers…

High heels Friday

As you can see, by the time Friday arrived I managed to do my hair, wear a skirt, and high heels. I actually rode my bike home from work in this outfit, which I think deserves an extra thumbs up. By the time I got home in the afternoon I didn’t look quite that put together anymore as in the pictures, but I think everybody got the idea.

For those of you who don’t consider 3″ heels “high heels”: I am already a giant without any heels. Considering that I mostly work with (short) men, 3″ are my personal self-set limit for office shoes.

What I Wore Giveaway

Jessica from “What I Wore” is giving away ten copies of her first book, which will be published this July. Hers is one of the first style blogs I started reading. I SO need to get one of those books – keep your fingers crossed for me!

Post-run dinner

We got back from a quick three mile run about an hour ago and since we only had leftovers from last night planned for dinner, I also made this salad Jordan from Ramshackle Glam had posted about last week. Since I had forgotten to buy scallions and it is supposed to be a 3-Ingredients-Meal, I added a medium sized tomatoe and 1 tbsp of vinegar – DE-LI-CIOUS!

Bright red

Thursday was a public holiday in South Germany (not only is it warmer here in the south, we also get more days off – besides the weird dialect people speak around here, I don’t know why anybody would not want to live here). So we went to the Merkur Berg in Baden Baden. And yes, the shirt I wore is as bright as it looks in the pictures.

Easy Monday…?

So here we go: my first outfit post (everybody say YAY!). For the beginning we’ll keep it simple: light navy sweater, chinos, and ballerinas – feels like PJ’s, looks like you actually made the effort to get dressed on a Monday morning with an almost 12 hour day at the office ahead of you.

One of the main reasons – or rather source of inspiration – why I wanted to start a blog (other than I can’t have a cat) are the many, many great style blogs out there that have become my daily reads on the web. I am one of those girls who literally scan other well dressed women on the street to steal their style. Style blogs are a great alternative when a) living just outside the city limits where there isn’t exactly high fashion around every corner b) your boyfriend suspiciously asks you on a regular basis why you are looking after and/or staring at other women.

Since I steal a lot of ideas, I need to give some in return (don’t judge me – at least I am trying. Right? Right?!?)

In the past twenty months I’ve started a new job, moved to a new city, started running and took up knitting again. Now it is time for another addition. Since I can’t have a cat, this it it – welcome to my blog!
